How to Become a Rockstar Office Administrator

A large chunk of the modern-day workforce is made up of professionals who specialize in office administration. Whether it has to do with providing logistical support for medical staff, maintaining databases for financial institutions, or tracking inventory for manufacturing giants, effective office administration is a lifelong skillset that one would typically spend an entire career developing and improving upon.

That being said, if you are currently in an office administrative role, it is only smart to ensure that you are acquiring skills and experiences that pave the way for further career development, whether it be in the current/related fields or even an entirely different one – that’s how versatile office administration can be!

Within your role, you would likely be utilizing Microsoft Excel, amongst other applications. If you are not doing so already, start maintaining a “Work Tracker” spreadsheet (Excel file) with a list of all the items that are on your plate to tackle within any given time period. For instance, it could be a weekly file whereby you create a new “Work Tracker” spreadsheet every Monday that contains a to-do list with deadlines that are coming up within the week. Here is an illustration of what I am talking about:

With the above-referenced type of tracking spreadsheet, you could even add a column to indicate the date when an item is completed. Incorporating this practice into your regular office routine would ensure that you remain organized and on top of all your assigned tasks such that you never miss a deadline. More importantly, such a skillset would make for an excellent addition to your Resume and your future Interviewers would be thoroughly impressed as well.

  • Managed personal and team deliverables through the utilization of tracking spreadsheets, thereby ensuring timely completion of multiple tasks with competing deadlines.

Do you agree that the above bullet point would make for a sweet addition to your Resume? If so, start incorporating this practice into your regular Office Administrative routine!
